Jamie Carragher tells Antonio Conte to fix Tottenham Hotspur’s “embarrassing” record against Chelsea
Antonio Conte was Chelsea’s manager when Tottenham Hotspur last won at Stamford Bridge. A 3-1 win in 2018 was their first win at Chelsea’s home ground since the inaugural Premier League season in 1992.
Since then, Spurs have failed to repeat that feat. Now, with Conte in the Lilywhites’ dugout, things could be different. Thomas Tuchel has won all five of his encounters against Spurs.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, speaking before the derby today (h/t Evening Standard), has asked Conte to fix this record. It becomes difficult to justify that Spurs are level with Chelsea in stature if they have won just one game at SW6 in 30 years.
“You’ve mentioned how many times they’ve won [at Stamford Bridge]. It’s embarrassing – two top teams, in London, to come here and only win once in the Premier League era.”
Conte may not have beaten the Blues last season but he got big results against Premier League giants Manchester City and Liverpool. Spurs won 3-2 at the Etihad under Conte and drew both league games against Liverpool.
“That’s what Antonio Conte has to change. If you look at the record last season against Liverpool and Manchester City, he got really big results.”
Conte is a man who knows how to win and get results. His track record at Juventus, Inter Milan, and Chelsea shows that he goes into a campaign believing his team is the one to beat- rather than having modest ambitions.
Spurs’ history suggests we should not start dreaming about winning league titles just yet, but Conte winning the Blues a PL trophy in his first season in England and then ending Inter’s 11-year-long Scudetto drought.

Conte has made six signings this summer, and Destiny Udogie could be the club’s seventh. Having already signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski in January, he has enough players to try and impose his identity on this team in a more holistic manner.
