Richarlison has been praised by Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte for his impact against Chelsea
Antonio Conte has praised Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison for his impact against Chelsea. The Brazilian came on for his Spurs debut in the second half as the North London side were losing against Chelsea.
Spurs visited Stamford Bridge on matchday two of the 2022/23 Premier League season. Tottenham were trailing 1-0 at half-time after an impressive strike from Kalidou Koulibaly gave the Blues the lead.
The North London side started the first few minutes of the game on the front foot. However, Antonio Conte’s side were quickly overrun by Chelsea for the majority of the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, Richarlison came on in the 57th minute, replacing Ryan Sessegnon. Speaking to the press ahead of Tottenham’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers via The Sun, Conte hailed the Brazilian for bringing focus and an edge to the team.
“For sure Richy is a player that made us focussed, nasty. He’s a player I like.
“He’s always into the training session with his mind. For us I think this is a good sign.”
Chelsea continued to dominate Spurs after halftime. The gaffer decided to change the shape of the team by bringing on Richarlison. We went from playing with a back-three to a back-four, with Ben Davis playing as the left-back.
Tottenham played with the former Everton striker and Harry Kane up front. Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min played as the wingers. Spurs looked more threatening with the change in shape.
We eventually got the equaliser as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg beat Edouard Mendy from distance. However, with less cover at the back, Spurs conceded once again as Reece James slotted the ball in the back of the net after Chelsea split open our defence.
The gaffer then opted to bring on Ivan Perisic and Lucas Moura as our wing-backs with the clock ticking. The side went back to three at the back. Conte’s gamble paid off in the end as Kane scored the equaliser in the 96th minute.
