Transfer News: Chelsea ready offer for Ronnie Edwards amid Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are readying an offer for Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards. The 19-year-old is also of interest to Tottenham Hotspur.
The report adds that the Blues watched Ronnie play against Derby County and have now decided to ready an offer for him. But, these two are not the only London clubs interested in the centre-back.
Crystal Palace are also interested and had a £4 million bid for the 19-year-old rejected. With less than a week remaining before the transfer window closes, the race to sign the centre-back could heat up.
Edwards joined Peterborough in 2020 from the Barnet Under-18 side. Since then, he has established himself in the squad at such a tender age. The defender was also part of the England Under-19 squad that won the European U-19 Championship last month.
The 19-year-old is under contract till 2025, having signed an extension in May last year. His current side are said to be holding out for a higher offer for their prized centre-back.
Antonio Conte has revamped the senior squad completely. He has also made fine additions to the youth squad. Edwards could be another asset for Spurs in their youth setup. But he will not come easy.
Chelsea could prove to be a thorn in the pursuit of the defender. The 19-year-old has played in all six games for his side this season. A very experienced young centre-back, he could help add depth to the squad and also be called up for cup games.

The best solution would be to buy him and loan him back to his current side. This way, the defender can add more experience under his belt, while Spurs could monitor his progress. But if Spurs want him in north London, they will have to act fast.
