Spurs Transfer News: Lucas Moura flirts with Tottenham Hotspur exit and offers himself to Sevilla
Lucas Moura is in the final two years of his Tottenham Hotspur contract and as per the Evening Standard, has been tracked by Sevilla recently. He was linked with a move away from Spurs this summer.
However, he ended up staying at the club after a pre-season where manager Antonio Conte even experimented with him as a right wing-back. In fact, the Brazil international played in that position during a pre-season friendly against Sevilla themselves.
Los Rojiblancos are a club that Spurs recently did business with. Bryan Gil joined Tottenham last summer in a deal that also saw Erik Lamela swap clubs. Speaking in an interview via VamosMiSevilla (h/t Evening Standard), Moura responded to being asked about Sevilla’s interest:
“I didn’t know about Sevilla’s interest, but it’s a club that I like and a city that they speak very highly of. Playing in La Liga would be something fantastic for me, because I like it a lot.”
There can be two ways to look at it from an ordinary fan’s point of view. One way is where you could think of this as a ‘come get me’ call after Lucas only playing 12 minutes of league football this season.
He has been out of action this season for a long time with a tendon issue but he was fit in our opening two Premier League games and came on as a late substitute in both of them. This is perhaps an indication of what life under Conte could be for him this season.
However, it’s not wrong to presume that Lucas’ comments could also be somewhat diplomatic. He was not going to bash the La Liga team or say anything derogatory about them, after all.
He just made a generic comment about loving the city and the La Liga. No matter how one takes Moura’s comments, it’s safe to say that no player, especially one who is arguably exiting the prime years of his career, would want to warm the benches for too long.

If the 30-year-old is satisfied with whatever role he is being handed by Conte, then it’s of course a boon for us. The versatile Brazilian is a big asset off the bench and in cup games.
He has also, after all, pledged to give it his all for the boss and the club no matter where he is played on the pitch.
