Tottenham Hotspur to open talks with Antonio Conte for new contract in November
Tottenham Hotspur will open contract talks with Antonio Conte in November after an impressive year at the helm for the Italian manager, as per the Telegraph (Subscription Required).
Conte is in the final year of his contract at Spurs. He became Tottenham’s manager at the beginning of November 2021. Almost a year later, it is fitting that Spurs are looking to reward him for his performances.
They have the opportunity to extend his deal by another season. However, they are waiting to see if he will be open to a longer commitment.
Conte is well-paid at Spurs. He seemingly earns £15million in wages over the course of a year and you don’t need to be an expert in finance to suggest that it’s more than what some good players earn at top clubs.
Conte came at a time when we were visibly reeling after the sacking of manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Conte was a statement appointment – perhaps one we should have made that summer itself.
Nevertheless, the former Italian manager arrived at N17 and it was a move that was filled with expectations. At the end of the 2021-22 campaign, Conte delivered.
Beating the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in the top four race, Spurs qualified for UEFA Champions League football. Surely that played at least a part in our successful summer transfer window.
After all, Ivan Perisic made it clear that Champions League football was an important prerequisite if he was to move to north London. Conte deserves a new deal and hopefully, he agrees to it.
