Eric Dier reveals telling Bryan Gil he must have taken the ball off Harry Kane vs Frankfurt
Speaking in an interview as quoted by Football. London, Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Eric Dier reveals telling talented Spanish youngster Bryan Gil that he must have taken the ball off Harry Kane for the penalty that the English superstar missed against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League in midweek.
Gil, who went on a mazy run inside the box was fouled which meant Tottenham got awarded a penalty and as he always does, Kane stepped up to take it. Unusually though, he could not convert his chance.
The penalty miss did not cost Spurs much as the Lilywhites managed to secure a win against the German club but it was uncharacteristic of Kane to miss a penalty. If Frankfurt had scored one more goal, the game would have ended in a draw.
However, the talented Spurs striker did not take long to atone for his penalty miss when he was presented with a chance against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday. Kane did not miss this time around, slotting the ball home comfortably.
Eric Dier acknowledged that Harry Kane was one of the best penalty kick takers in the world and that it was normal for even the best of players to miss a penalty on the rare occasion.
However, the Tottenham centre-back went on to reveal that the team were joking with Bryan Gil.
“I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to him about it. We told Bryan Gil he should have taken the ball off him!”
Despite Dier’s jokes, there are absolutely no doubts as to who Tottenham’s preferred penalty taker is. We never see this changing and it is always Kane who steps up confidently to take the penalties we win.
Former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho was quoted once, according to Football. London, what he loved the most about Kane’s penalties was the fact that he knew exactly how he was going to take it during a game.
“In the Harry Kane situation, there is something I love about Harry, and that is when he goes to the game, he knows if there is a penalty, how he is going to take it. It is not like in the last moment he makes a decision or changes his mind”
