Harry Kane delighted with the resurgence of Matthew Doherty at Tottenham
Speaking in an interview to SpursPlay after the game against Everton as quoted by Independent.ie, Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane revealed that he is very happy for the resurgence of Matthew Doherty in a Spurs shirt.
Doherty, who is just returning to the first-team picture after spending a number of weeks on the sideline has put in two performances to remember in the last two Premier League games for Spurs.
The suspension to Emerson Royal could not have come at a better time for Doherty. The Irish full-back has made full use of the absence of the Brazilian to show Antonio Conte that he is an option for that position.
Doherty had a similar period last campaign as well when he was playing excellent football and Conte gave him a starring role in the team. However, a serious injury that he sustained threw the spanner in the works.
In his absence, Conte chose to go with Emerson and although the Brazilian has not been convincing enough to the watcher’s eye, the Italian tactician seems to see something in him that we don’t.
Kane however, was very happy about the comeback of Doherty and revealed his delight for the Irishman.
“I’m really happy for him. He’s been waiting for his opportunity. Since he got injured last season he’s had to be patient this year, just biding his time, working hard and getting as fit as possible, just waiting for his chance.”
Doherty probably has his place in the XI even for the game against Manchester United midweek but after that game, Emerson will return. It remains to be seen who is preferred in that role after that.
A huge few games await Doherty that could make or break his Tottenham career. The Irishman is pretty much in a last-chance saloon at Hotspur Way and if he loses his place again, it may be curtains for a player who is not young by any means.
