Tim Sherwood warns Antonio Conte of criticism like Jose Mourinho if Spurs stop winning games
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will face the same criticism that former manager Jose Mourinho received if they start losing games, claims ex-Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood.
Conte has come under a bit of pressure from the fans due to his style of play. However, the results have gone in favour of the north London club and such criticism should not bother the Italian at all.
However, Sherwood has warned that the current manager could face the same criticism that Mourinho faced when results did not go in his side’s favour. Speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Express), the former Spurs boss gave his opinion.
🏆 “I wouldn’t rule out Tottenham.”

🔥 “Spurs has been criticised over the style of play but if I’m Conte, I’m not listening!”
👀 “It can only come into affect if they stop winning! Conte has won everywhere.”

“If you don’t win the games, then they start questioning your performances. A bit like when Jose was there, they were top of the league under Jose Mourinho and everyone was happy, it was all about ‘we haven’t won since 2008.’ As soon as the results started to go a little bit wonky, then they started to criticise the way he was playing. The same will happen with Antonio Conte but hopefully this guy looks like he’s got a real hunger and desire still in his belly.”
Mourinho, who is currently managing Italian side AS Roma was the coach for the north London club during the 2019/20 season. It was a disaster for the club as they finished sixth on the table.
The next season was worse. The club finished seventh on the table, although we did reach the final of the EFL Cup. However, Mourinho was sacked one day before the final and Spurs lost the final 1-0 against Manchester City.
Under Conte, the club seems to have become a powerhouse. The Italian was critical in helping us finish fourth last season and qualify for the UEFA Champions League. This season the north London club have fared very well so far.
Spurs currently sit third on the table with 23 points, four behind leaders and rivals Arsenal and have only lost one game so far in the league. In the Champions League too, the club is in a very good position and could qualify for the next round with victory in their next game against Sporting CP.
