Juventus decide to sell Tottenham Hotspur target Weston McKennie in January
Juventus are willing to part ways with midfielder Weston McKennie in the January transfer window, which is likely to come as good news for Tottenham Hotspur, as per Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t ESPN).
The USMNT midfielder is expected to travel with his country to the FIFA World Cup in November. A good showing in Qatar could make things difficult for Spurs if they really do want to sign him.
That could, after all, attract attention from other teams. Hence, Spurs would be wise to get their business done early – or at least start laying down the foundations of a potential deal before the World Cup kicks off on November 20.
The Old Lady are likely to start hearing offers for him as soon as January. McKennie is a player that could be a smart addition to our already quality midfield, especially in terms of depth and competition.
It is hard to see Rodrigo Bentancur (who is McKennie’s former teammate from their time at Juve) and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg being displaced from manager Antonio Conte’s plans anytime soon.
However, he can be very good in terms of providing competition. Moreover, the American star has the ability to play as a right midfielder – something he has picked up during his time with the Allianz Stadium outfit.
Emerson Royal, Djed Spence, and Matt Doherty do play in the position but the former Schlake 04 man can offer a different dynamic there – one more focused on ball-playing abilities, retention, and passing range.

The USA star will have two and a half years left on his contract when the January transfer window opens (Transfermarkt). It remains to be seen if Spurs do put in an offer for him – on paper, he looks like a very, very wise potential signing.
