Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur earmark Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as Hugo Lloris successor
Tottenham Hotspur have identified Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili as the number one target as Spurs continue the search for a long-term successor for Hugo Lloris.
The France international is now 35 and entering the final one-and-a-half years of his contract (Transfermarkt). He was our best player against Manchester United and if it wasn’t for him, we could have lost by more than the 2-0 scoreline.
However, there will come a time when we will have to replace him, as much as Spurs fans won’t be looking forward to that day. Jan Oblak and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are two of the biggest names linked to the club recently.
Now, Marca via TEAMtalk (h/t LeedsLive) claim that Mamardashvili is the club’s number one transfer target, which would come as a relief for Leeds United fans given our recent interest in their goalkeeper, Illan Meslier.
It is said that the Georgian goalkeeper is seen as a more realistic target over Ter Stegen and Oblak – both of whom are currently the number one for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, respectively.
Mamardashvili isn’t the most famous name in world football but that’s because he only recently joined Valencia on a permanent basis – doing so in January 2022. The youngster is just beginning his journey on the big stage.
This could be the right time to strike and sign him before the former Dinamo Tbilisi goalie’s stocks potentially increase in the future. We signed Lloris from Olympique Lyonnais and that has proven to be an elite bit of business.

If Mamardashvili can be groomed into becoming a player of that stature, then there can be nothing better for the Lilywhites. Signing him before Lloris’ possible departure would also allow the Frenchman to impart some of his knowledge to his potential understudy.
