Jamie Redknapp feels Antonio Conte not signing a new Tottenham Hotspur contract yet is “strange”
Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Jamie Redknapp feels it is “strange” that Antonio Conte has not signed a contract extension at the club yet. The ex-midfielder believes the Italian should have committed his future in North London by now.
Conte has been one of the best managers in football over the years. However, the former Juventus head coach is known for his short stints in the dugouts of clubs.
Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Express), Redknapp, who is best known for his time as a Liverpool player, is concerned about the uncertainty around Conte’s future at the club.
“Normally with managers, somebody of his ilk, would have signed up by now. It’s a strange situation with the World Cup, the season is going to be over very quickly.”
The Spurs manager’s last long reign managing a club was in Italy with the Bianconeri. And the 53-year-old spent just three seasons with the Old Lady.
He was subsequently appointed the manager of the Italian national side. And after two years, Conte stepped from the post of the head coach of Gli Azzurri.
The Italian returned to club football with Chelsea in the Premier League and won the English top flight in his debut season at Stamford Bridge. However, the 53-year-old’s second campaign in charge of the Blues was underwhelming and he was sacked.
Conte then took charge of an Inter Milan side that had fallen from grace in recent years. However, the Italian was able to take them to their first Scudetto in 11 years. But once again, he left after two seasons with the Nerazzurri.
Tottenham have evidently invested heavily in the gaffer since his appointment. Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevksi were signed in January 2022. And the recent transfer window saw several quality incomings as well.
