Transfer News: Chelsea could sell midfielder N’Golo Kante in January amid Tottenham Hotspur interest

Chelsea could sell midfielder N’Golo Kante in January, according to La Repubblica (h/t Football. London) with Tottenham Hotspur interested in the Frenchman.

Antonio Conte wants to reunite with the French midfielder, after being the one to bring him to Stamford Bridge in 2016 during his time at the west London club.

But Spurs are not alone in their pursuit of the 31-year-old. Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan are also interested in the French international.

It is surprising to see Spurs show interest in Kante. Conte has Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg dominating his midfield this season, with the duo of one the best in the Premier League.

He also has the options of Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp has options on the bench. Kante, who is still one of the best midfielders, has struggled with fitness this season.

The midfielder has only featured twice this season and is now recovering from a relapse of his hamstring injury. The 31-year-old is set to miss the World Cup this year, having won it the last time out in Russia.

Also there is the issue of his age. The midfielder is 31 and way past his prime. It would not make sense to get him into the team, when the club could instead spend money on bringing someone who is young.

Spurs could try to get in the midfielder in January if Conte insists on him. Whether the Blues would be willing to sell their star midfielder to a rival club is something that remains to be seen.
