Napoli don’t intend to move for Tottenham Hotspur and PSG target Arda Guler in January

Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have been keeping track of Fenerbahce playmaker Arda Guler, as per the Express.

Now, TuttoNapoli (h/t the Express) claims that Napoli don’t intend to move for the 17-year-old in the January transfer window. This could provide Spurs with one less competition if they were to make a move for him.

Guler is perhaps a bit too young for the Lilywhites’ first-team set-up at the moment. We do lack an attacking midfielder and while Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have been adventurous this season, they aren’t natural number 10s.

But Guler may not be the man if manager Antonio Conte wants a number 10 right now. He sure seems like a sound investment for the future but for the short term, we’re better off going after a player of James Maddison’s profile.

The England international has been linked with a move to Spurs and is a tried and tested player in the Premier League. If and when we address the weaknesses in our squad, then going after a highly-rated teenager makes sense.

Guler has made a big name for himself in Turkey. The Fenerbahce youngster has been quick to be compared to Mesut Ozil – a player of a similar profile as the Turkey international.

The youngster is yet to become a regular fixture in the team’s starting XI, however. He has played in just 301 minutes this campaign spread over 13 games across competitions.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Guler played just 18 minutes in the UEFA Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv in the 0-0 first leg draw. He was an unused substitute in the second leg where his team lost 2-1.
