Tottenham Hotspur urged to sign Jordan Pickford from Everton as Hugo Lloris replacement
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent has urged Spurs to sign Everton’s Jordan Pickford as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.
The France international has been a solid presence between the sticks for Spurs, making 437 appearances across competitions for them since joining from Lyon in 2013.
However, the 35-year-old is on the decline and has become susceptible to mistakes. His part in both of Newcastle United’s goals in their 2-1 win over Spurs on 23 October is evidence of that.
Lloris recently extended his contract until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). However, Tottenham will have to make a decision sooner rather than later when it comes to looking for a replacement.
Bent has urged the Lilywhites to take a look at Pickford. The 28-year-old is going to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with England but is plying his trade in a struggling Everton side, who are in the relegation zone.
Bent exclusively told talkSPORT:
“There’s one where I think he’ll have to move on and that’s Jordan Pickford. The situation at Everton, it doesn’t look good. They’re one of the favourites to go down. I think they’ll survive.”
“Why not? [When asked if Pickford can join Tottenham] Lloris is getting on now, he’s making a few mistakes. There’s no reason why Jordan Pickford is there and ready. Why would you not take him at Spurs?”
Pickford is one of the finest goalkeepers in the Premier League who is now tried and tested at the top level. His club are clearly struggling and Spurs are evidently a better project right now under manager Antonio Conte.

We are currently in the UEFA Champions League and competing for a top-four finish again. Goalkeepers tend to have a long shelf life but there could come a time where Pickford desires to test him at a really ‘top club’, with all due respect to the Toffees.
