Tottenham Hotspur have Ivan Perisic plan to beat Liverpool in Marcelo Brozovic transfer race
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte could look to use Ivan Perisic in a bid to beat Liverpool in the race for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, as per Mondo Calcio (h/t the Express).
Spurs are supposedly ‘front of the queue’ to sign the Croatia international who is headed to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with his country. There, he will play with Spurs’ very own Croat, Perisic.
The two played together at Inter for a while under Conte and apparently share a good relationship. Perisic could be the key for Spurs if they really want to get a deal across the line for the Serie A midfielder.
Spurs need to add in midfield. We do have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur but an injury to either would see Yves Bissouma or Oliver Skipp starting games.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion star is by no means a bad player, but he has evidently failed to win over either the manager or the fans with his performances. Then again, he hasn’t been played a lot to have that continuity.
Conte also likes to play with three midfielders at times where he does not have a strong front three to start up front. We saw that at times this season when only Harry Kane and Son Heung-min started as strikers in a 3-5-2.
Hence, in those occasions, it is imperative we have depth in the middle. Skipp, 21, is still learning his trade and is perhaps not at the level required to be a regular starter for us.
Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, and Giovani Lo Celso have all been loaned out by us. Spurs would hope one of those can turn around their careers and become an additional body in midfield for Tottenham.

Then again, it’s perhaps time we go after quality rather than quantity and invest in players that lead us to trophies. Hopefully, Perisic puts in a few good words about Spurs in Brozovic’s ear s Qatar.
