Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona interested in Sporting CP’s Pedro Porro

Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid are all interested in signing Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro, as per Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias via London World (h/t Football.London).

Spurs have had a mixed time with Emerson Royal down the right flank. The Brazilian does have his moments of brilliance, but he tends to frustrate fans at times – be it with his defending or the end product going forward.

Long story short, he is a player that can be upgraded on. If we want to challenge teams like Liverpool and Manchester City consistently, we need world-class players.

Pedro Porro has made a name for himself in Portugal after being deemed expendable by the Cityzens in the past. From 2019 to 2022, he spent three years on Manchester City’s books.

An upgrade on Emerson?

However, he never made a senior appearance for them and after spending time out on loan with Sporting, he joined the Portuguese giants this summer on a permanent basis. He has scored seven goals and assisted 10 times in 63 games across competitions for them.

This, at least to some extent, shows his capability going forward. He is of the same age as Emerson and has shown that he has what it takes to make it big.

Conte likes his full-backs to push up the pitch and attack, which is why we have a winger in Ivan Perisic playing as a left-wing-back. Those who have seen Porro play can’t deny that he is a very able player in the final third for his team.

The question that now remains is if Spurs go after him – and if they do, can they beat Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, and Barcelona? These three clubs offer him a way back to his home country.

But with Spurs, he will have an exciting project in a part of the world where he would think he has something to prove – after being sold by Man City. Despite signing this summer, he has a little over two and a half years left on his new contract (Transfermarkt) – which is perhaps a short duration compared to what most other players sign.
