Tottenham Hotspur to continue keeping tabs on Everton star Anthony Gordon
According to Football.london, Tottenham Hotspur will keep tabs on Everton star Anthony Gordon ahead of the 2023 January transfer window.
The 21-year-old is a key player for the Toffees and played a key role in their fight against relation last season. Little appears to have changed at Goodison Park and the young Englishman once again has the difficult task of saving Frank Lampard’s side from the dreaded drop.
Gordon’s performances in the 2021-22 season saw several sides take notice. Tottenham Hotspur were one of them but the player, in the end, stayed put at Goodison Park.
The Everton ace has not had the best of seasons this time around, scoring just thrice across 15 games in all competitions. This has done little to dissuade Spurs, who remain hot on the player’s heels.
Any deal for the 21-year-old will not be cheap with Everton holding firm. With three years left on his current deal, the Toffees have enough leverage in contract negotiations. Tottenham, for their part, will need to fork out around £60m to land the player. It is, in all honesty, a sum that is over the top for someone who hasn’t impressed consistently.
A major reason for Tottenham’s interest also appears to be their keenness to add to the homegrown quota. Gordon not only adds to the tally but his versatility gives Antonio Conte several options on how best to deploy him.
London rivals Chelsea are also keen on Gordon as they continue their rebuild under Todd Boehly and Graham Potter. The Blues were touted to have dropped their interest but that appears to be far from the case.
A striker appears to be on the agenda at Spurs with Atalanta star Ruslan Malinovskyi also on their radar. Whether a move will be made to land either player in January remains to be seen.
