England greats agree on why Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane would be ‘sick’ despite 6-2 win vs Iran
England legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer are of the agreement that Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane would be sick despite his team beating Iran 6-2 in their opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Kane provided two assists – one in each half – but could not get on the scoresheet. He played a beautiful ball to Raheem Sterling in first-half stoppage time for the Chelsea star to make it 3-1.
Then, he played a simple pass for Marcus Rashford’s 71st-minute goal. The England captain was withdrawn a few minutes later and exited the pitch without a goal to his name.
Speaking after the game, BBC pundit Rio Ferdinand asked Lineker and Shearer (h/t the Mirror):
“England have scored six goals and Harry Kane never got in on the act. Would you two have been sick if your team had scored six and you didn’t get on the scoresheet?”
The two former England internationals emphatically agreed that they would. Kane, on a personal level, would be itching to get his hands on another FIFA World Cup Golden Boot trophy.
However, it’s safe to say that the Spurs star would want his country to win the tournament more than any individual accolade. It would also be his first meaningful silverware in his footballing career.
Moreover, Kane has shown that he is an unselfish player when it comes to playing for the team. Over the past few seasons, the Englishman has shown his ability to drop deep and create for others.

Of course, he would have wanted to score and get among the top-scorers list in the tournament. But he would surely be proud of his display after captaining his team to a massive 6-2 win and providing two great assists.
