Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane is set to have a scan on his right ankle ahead of England taking on the United States, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express]. The Three Lions will come up against Gregg Berhalter’s team on 25 November.
Gareth Southgate’s team beat Iran 6-2 at Khalifa International Stadium on Monday (21 November). The English captain did get on the scoresheet. However, the 29-year-old set up two goals, one for Chelsea star Raheem Sterling and another for Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka.
Overall, Kane had a quality game leading the Three Lions’ front line. But unfortunately, the Spurs striker could not complete the full 90 minutes. And in the 76th minute, Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson replaced him.
After the fixture, Kane was seen limping and wearing a strapping. Thankfully, the 29-year-old and Southgate stated that the North London side’s talisman was “fine”.
England have gone into the World Cup as one of the favourites to lift the title. The Three Lions made it to the semi-finals in the previous edition in Russia. The Tottenham striker was influential back then.
Southgate also managed to lead the national side to the finals of Euro 2020. Unfortunately, Kane missed out on getting his hands on a trophy as the Three Lions lost to Italy at Wembley Stadium in the penalty shootout.
The 29-year-old has been in imperious form for Spurs in the current campaign. Usually, the forward takes some time to get going at the start of a season. But in this term, he has been smashing goals from the get-go.
In 22 appearances for the North London side in all competitions, Kane has scored 13 goals and provided three assists. And while Antonio Conte’s team have faltered in recent weeks, the English striker has still put in decent performances.
