Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have shown interest in SL Benfica defender Antonio Silva

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Liverpool Echo), Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have shown interest in the profile of 19-year-old Portuguese sensation Antonio Silva, whose explosive rise in the Liga Nos saw him make it to the FIFA World Cup squad for Portugal.

SL Benfica have been exceptional this season in the league as well as Europe and actually topped their UEFA Champions League group, which included heavyweights Paris St Germain and Juventus.

It is no small feat for a club of the size and resources of Benfica who, added to the victories, have been doing so while playing sensational and eye-catching football.

Silva is right at the heart of the Benfica defence and his rare performances have earned him the plaudits, with former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher a big fan of the player and has deemed him to be a ‘future superstar’.

It has not only been a year that Silva was plying his trade in the reserve team of SL Benfica. From making his first team debut to solidifying his position as a starter in the club’s biggest games, it has been quite a year for the young defender.

Add to it that he made it to the World Cup and made his debut in the tournament against South Korea shows the belief and trust of higher management in the player and the huge ceiling that he possesses.

Spurs have registered early interest in the player, followed by Liverpool and two unnamed Serie A sides but for now, it is a deal which looks rather difficult, with the player’s current deal expiring in 2027 (Transfermarkt).

Benfica would be aware of the special talent that they have at their hands who, in the future, does have the potential to incite a huge transfer fee similar to the likes of Joao Felix, Ruben Dias and most recently Darwin Nunez.

For now, it will be a good ride to see the progress of the youngster who still has a lot to learn but is at the perfect stage and league currently that will allow him to grow to his potential without much-added pressure.

Hopefully, Fabio Paratici and Co. are able to work on their magic and have a plan ready to sign the talented youngster, when the right time and opportunity comes.
