Paul Robinson gives his verdict on Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie
Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that Barcelona midfielder and Spurs target Franck Kessie ‘ticks a lot of boxes’ for manager Antonio Conte.
A report in Football. London last week claimed that the north London club was well in the mix to sign the 25-year-old who has struggled for game time at the Catalonia club this season.
Xavi has preferred the young midfield duo of Pedri and Gavi over the Ivory Coast international. Former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Frenkie de Jong is also above him in the pecking order.

Conte is looking to add to his midfield in this winter transfer window and the 25-year-old is one of the players on the shortlist. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Robinson had his say on the former AC Milan midfielder.
“I’ve not seen much of him since he moved to Barcelona in all honesty. If you look at the type of player Conte likes, Kessie would fit the bill. He is strong, quick and effective at both ends of the pitch. He ticks a lot of boxes. There is no doubting that he is an amazing player. The question is, would he come in and command a starting spot?
Hojbjerg and Bentancur have done extremely well. [Yves] Bissouma has struggled to get a look in at times. Would Kessie upset that midfield? Maybe but I don’t think it’s a certainty. It’s really important that Spurs sign better than what they already have.”
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have been the go-to midfielders for the boss so far this season. Other midfielders like Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp have struggled to provide any such competition to the duo.
Kessie has only played in 13 games so far in all competitions. The 25-year-old also has struggled with fitness a bit, while his form has also not been like what it was in the previous seasons during his time in Italy.
While it does not look good on paper to sign him, the midfielder is still a very talented one. A box-to-box midfielder, he helps add that attacking depth from the midfield, something that only Bentancur has been able to do so far this season.

It remains to be seen if the north London club make any approach for the midfielder next month. With the midfielder struggling for game time , he could may be tempted to ply his trade elsewhere.
