Liverpool enter race for Tottenham Hotspur target Randal Kolo Muani

Liverpool are said to be interested in a transfer for Tottenham Hotspur target and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani, as per RMC Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Spurs, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool supposedly showed interest in the player before he travelled to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Christopher Nkunku and Karim Benzema’s injuries meant Kolo Muani even got some minutes there.

The 24-year-old centre-forward scored in the semi-final win against Morocco and provided an assist in his team’s 3-3 regulation time draw against Argentina in the final. His other appearance came against Tunisia in a 1-0 loss.

It remains to be seen if he will change clubs despite joining Frankfurt just this summer from Nantes in France. He is fast approaching the prime years of his career.

A realistic target?

With a taste of international football at the highest level and Benzema’s retirement from the national team, surely Kolo Muani will be dreaming of more prominence in Les Bleus‘ set-up. That will be very, very difficult to attain without regular club football.

Currently, he is a regular for Die Adler, where he has scored eight times and provided 11 assists in 23 games across competitions. But it is hard to imagine him being a regular starter at Liverpool or Spurs right now.

Spurs have Harry Kane, Richarlison, Son Heung-min, and Dejan Kulusevski. This is a world-class quarter who are regulars for their national team and command first-team football under manager Antonio Conte.

As for Liverpool, they have Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and the newly signed Cody Gakpo as players who can play down the middle. Hence, a move seems unlikely if regular first-team football is a prerequisite for Kolo Muani right now.

Moreover, given the fact that he impressed in Qatar in the limited time he had and the fact that his contract expires only in the summer of 2027 (Transfermarkt), one can imagine the Bundesliga rate him very highly – especially in financial terms.
