Former Chelsea manager open to replacing Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur

In news that may not please Chelsea fans, Standard Sport claims that former Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is interested in replacing Antonio Conte if he leaves his position as Tottenham Hotspur manager.

The German has been a free agent after being sacked by Chelsea in September last year. He was replaced by Graham Potter, who is currently unable to steer Chelsea in the right direction with regard to results.

Conte, meanwhile, has been at Spurs ever since he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in November 2021. However, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, which has led to insecurity over his future at the club.

Not penning a new deal until now could be a bad sign. Hopefully, it doesn’t have anything to do with the manager and the board being at loggerheads over any matter with each other.

What should Spurs do?

Conte has shown in the past that he can deliver titles with ease in domestic competitions if backed properly. He did so at Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan, which is why he has been brought in to end our lengthy trophy drought.

But if he isn’t keen to continue at Spurs – and while that may be a problematic sign regarding how the club is run – then perhaps Tuchel can be a smart option to consider. He won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea.

He enjoyed success with Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain to a certain degree and can certainly put that experience to use here. Moreover, he now knows a thing or two about Premier League football.

From the fans’ perspective, they will recall the bitter moment, ‘the handshake’ between Conte and Tuchel, after the two teams played out a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge in August 2022. But that doesn’t mean we won’t welcome him.

As was the case of Jose Mourinho and Andre Villas-Boas among others, we are quick to welcome a new manager to the club if we feel it’s the right decision for Tottenham. Things may turn sour later on but it is hardly ever due to their past affiliations with any rival of ours.
