Antonio Conte drops Tottenham Hotspur injury update for Fulham clash
Manager Antonio Conte has said that he hopes Tottenham Hotspur don’t have any fresh injury concerns for the Premier League clash against Fulham on 23 January.
Spurs were truly terrible in the second half against Manchester City at the Etihad in our recent 4-2 defeat. One positive from the game was that we got to see Rodrigo Bentancur, Richarlison, and Dejan Kulusevski.
The trio have had injury troubles following the 2022 FIFA World Cup break but seemed to be playing at their 100% against the Cityzens. Going into a must-win game against the Cottagers at N17, Conte doesn’t expect any injury troubles.
He added that things can change within the space of a day, but for now, the situation doesn’t seem bad. He told a press conference on Friday (20 January) [h/t official Spurs website]:
“It’s difficult to answer because we only played last night, I think no, but sometimes something can happen after a day (following a game) and the medical department need time to make an evaluation, but I hope not.”
“We finished with all the players, a bit tired, especially the players recovering from injury like Rodrigo, Deki Kulusevski, but it’s only fatigue.”
Injuries to Son Heung-min, Kulusevski, Richarlison, Cristian Romero and Bentancur, among others, at crucial points of the season have cost us big time. A fit Spurs squad would have certainly done better than what we have come to see recently.
Fans will recall how we were one of the early title contenders, at least up until the first north London derby of the season when the team was fit and firing on all cylinders. Additions in January are important because our squad is absolutely not injury-prone.
It also needs quality and depth so that we can navigate through the season even if a handful of key players aren’t available. Not having any injury issues is certainly a great start, but we certainly can’t settle for what we have.
