Cristian Stellini gives verdict on Tottenham’s Pedro Porro in Wolves loss
Pedro Porro had a fairly quiet evening against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 loss in the Premier League on 4 March.
The Spain international was signed from Sporting CP last month but has since been leapfrogged by Emerson Royal for a starting spot. His only league start apart from the one against Wolves came in the 4-1 loss against Leicester City.
Porro started down the right-hand side and played 81 minutes before being substituted for Emerson. The former Manchester City defender had a decent game and didn’t really do much.
A free-kick that struck the post in the sixth minute of first-half stoppage time was the highlight of Porro’s performance. Speaking after the 1-0 loss against Wolves at Molineux, assistant manager Cristian Stellin said (h/t Football.London):
“Pedro Porro played a good game like all the team. We know Pedro Porro is this type of player. We need to help him to adapt himself to a new league but today he was important for us. The only thing is be ready, nasty and aggressive in the way you have to kill the game.”
Perhaps Stellini is being kind here. The team, as a whole, was pretty poor. We barely created anything meaningful and were wasteful in possession.
We seem to be just too inconsistent. Wins against teams such as Manchester City have been overshadowed by disappointing losses against teams such as Leicester City and Wolves.
Stellin made a fair point here. He needs to get adjusted to the league. Perhaps signing him earlier in the January transfer window would have allowed him to get accustomed to his new surroundings sooner.

But he is 23 and has a lot of time ahead of him. It’s fair to think that he will be moulded as our first-choice right-back from next season, but if not earlier.
