Napoli eye Mahmoud Dahoud to replace Tottenham Hotspur’s Tanguy Ndombele
Tanguy Ndombele’s days at Tottenham Hotspur have seemed numbered since a few seasons back, but Spurs can’t seem to get rid of him permanently.
The French midfielder was signed for a fee rising to £63million with add-ons from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2019. He has been a total disappointment since then.
According to Italian outlet Il Mattino, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud could be signed by Napoli to replace potential outgoings this summer, including Tottenham’s Ndombele.
This would effectively mean that Gli Azzurri may not exercise the €30million buy-option inserted into Ndombele’s contract. This will be a blow to Spurs if they are looking to offload him permanently and recoup some of the fees they paid for him a little under four years back.
What next for Ndombele?
Dahoud’s contract expires at the end of the season and the Borussia Dortmund midfielder could be signed on a free transfer. The 27-year-old Germany international is a quality player who can contribute on both ends of the pitch.
One can totally understand why a top club like Napoli would want to sign him. Ndombele has 23 appearances in Serie A this season, with the club destined to win the league title.
That has, however, amounted to just 567 minutes of league football for Ndombele – a very low number indeed. It would, hence, seem clear that manager Luciano Spalletti isn’t really fond of the former Lyon man when it comes to starting him regularly.

He has started in just six Premier League games for us since the end of the 2020-21 season and was loaned to Lyon for the second half of last season. Hopefully, the club can find a suitor for him this summer and we can get off the wage bill to make room for a quality midfielder who can contest for a regular starting berth.
