Reason why Barcelona are willing to sell Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie
TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed why Barcelona are willing to sell Tottenham Hotspur target Franck Kessie in the summer, and it is to accommodate the possible signing of Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.
Tottenham are already making plans to strengthen their squad for the next campaign. One of the players that they are reportedly interested in is Franck Kessie, who is currently playing for Barcelona.
Barcelona are in contact with Fiorentina regarding a summer deal for Amrabat and could use the proceeds from the sale of Kessie to sign him. This could come as a boost to Tottenham, who have been linked with the Ivorian midfielder for some time.
It is important to note, however, that Xavi Hernandez, the current manager of Barcelona, will only make a final decision on whether or not to sell Kessie at the end of the season. If Kessie is made available, Tottenham will likely face stiff competition from other Premier League and Serie A clubs for his signature.
If Antonio Conte remains in charge of Tottenham next season, Kessie could be a natural fit for his system. The Italian manager is known for his preference for hard-working midfielders who can cover a lot of ground, and Kessie certainly fits the bill.
The 26-year-old is a tireless worker who is equally adept at breaking up play and driving forward with the ball at his feet. A tank in midfield, he also has the technical nous to act as a creative presence, albeit with limitations.
Kessie’s performances for AC Milan over the last few seasons have earned him a reputation as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Europe. He has been a key part of Milan’s resurgence in recent years but his time at Barcelona has been rather mixed.
Barcelona signed him on a free transfer last summer, but if they are willing to sell him to make way for Amrabat, Tottenham could be in pole position to sign him. This is a very interesting option for the London club.
