Tottenham Hotspur to instantly replace Antonio Conte with former PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino
Tottenham Hotspur have been told by Arsenal legend Paul Merson to sack Antonio Conte and replace him instantly with former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) boss Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine boss was, of course, contracted at Spurs between 2014 and 2019. He led us to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final, where we lost to Liverpool.
Conte’s future at Spurs is uncertain. He is in the final season of his contract and could leave as a free agent at the end of the campaign. Poch is now a free agent after being let go by PSG last year.
Pochettino’s name would have come up as an obvious option. He has laid the groundwork on which this current team is built, moulding the likes of Harry Kane into the players they are today.
For Merson, he is the obvious choice to replace Conte. Writing for Daily Star, he said:
“For me, Pochettino should come on board as soon as possible. He could lift the players in the race for fourth and it also gives him time to prepare for next season. It’s such a win-win as Conte no longer looks like he wants to be there anymore.”
Conte hasn’t looked like a man willing to stay here for too long. It seems like the love between the two parties is fading. Things have reached a strange point after our elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of AC Milan.
Conte’s interviews after the aggregate loss against I Rossoneri seem to indicate that he isn’t happy with the things that are going on. In particular, his to-and-fro with Richarlison hints that things could start to get bitter in the dressing room.
He hasn’t stayed for more than three years at a club. He is also a long way from home and staying at Spurs for another season could be, frankly, a season wasted for all parties unless he properly commits to the cause here.
When you’re rebuilding a team and wanting to win trophies on a consistent basis, the future of the manager is the last thing the fans and board would want to worry about. Pochettino would offer us a route back home.

It will mean admitting that we made a mistake when we let him go in the first place. But there’s no time for egos. Perhaps it’s time to start all over again.
