AS Roma want Antonio Conte of Tottenham Hotspur as Jose Mourinho successor
Inter Milan commentator Christian Recalcati has made a surprising claim (h/t Football-Italia) that AS Roma want Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte as Jose Mourinho’s successor.
The Portuguese manager was, of course, Spurs’ boss until April 2021 when he was sacked before the League Cup final. He is now at AS Roma and is on a contract until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt).
Conte’s future at Tottenham is also uncertain. His current deal expires at the end of the campaign and he is yet to pen fresh terms.
This seems very surprising. It would genuinely be a very strange sight to see Conte at AS Roma because their fans are surely happy with what Mourinho is doing.
Conte at Roma?
He won the UEFA Europa Conference League last season and they are currently fourth in Serie A and on course to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
Spurs would be wise to tie Conte down to a new contract themselves but given what has happened this month, it seems that the Italian manager could be heading out.
He claimed after his team’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League earlier this week at the hands of AC Milan that Spurs could themselves sack him before his contract’s expiry.
That, and his public to-and-fro with Richarlison is giving a very ugly look for the entire club. Hopefully, things iron themselves out in the coming weeks but it would be hard to remain positive given we are going another season without a trophy.

As for his links to Roma, it seems out of the blue but given the two managers’ history, anything is possible. They have, after all, been the manager at three clubs – Inter Milan, Chelsea and Spurs.
