According to journalist Shaun Custis on talkSPORT, former Spurs favourite Mauricio Pochettino has been actively backed to push for a Tottenham Hotspur return.

The Argentine was at the helm in north London from 2014 to 2019, arguably coming the closest to taking the club to the top since our last trophy in 2008. He was undoubtedly a fan-favourite during his time here, be it good times or bad.

The 51-year-old is unattached since being dismissed from Paris Saint-Germain in 2022. Familiar with the top players and the club’s history. Pochettino will need no introduction to the task at hand.

Antonio Conte’s reign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looks set to end in flames following his sensational outburst following the 3-3 draw against Southampton at the weekend. As things stand, it would appear to be just a matter of time before the Italian is handed his marching orders.

With another experiment by Daniel Levy falling short, Custis believes Pochettino is pushing to retake his former job. Levy, however, remains hesitant to hire the man he once dismissed.

One can understand the Spurs executive’s decision given that re-hiring Pochettino will be proof of his shortcoming. Firing the 51-year-old and spending millions on three different rebuilds just to re-hire him again screams incompetence.

Pochettino has managed a better win percentage than any other manager with over 100 games in charge at the Lane. While his reputation has taken a beating at the Parc des Princes, Pochettino will be under no illusions about the job ahead of him should he take over.

A popular figure amidst the fanbase, the Argentine could rally the supporters as Tottenham seek to find direction and ambition. Levy will very well need to swallow his pride and do what is best for the club than massage his ego.

Despite Conte’s rant holding some uncomfortable truths, the plain fact remains that the Italian failed to get the best of the resources handed to him. Tottenham are better off chasing stability and right now, Pochettino is just the man who can offer that. Few reunions end happily and hopefully, we can buck the trend with the Argentine.
