“Not satisfied”- Tottenham star paints ‘honest’ picture of Conte’s candid outburst

Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg ties up with USG Italy.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg talks about Tottenham boss Antonio Conte’s comments in the media

Speaking in an interview as quoted by the Sun, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the first Tottenham Hotspur player to come out and talk about Antonio Conte’s furious rant to the media last weekend.

Tottenham drew 3-3 to 20th-placed Southampton last weekend despite having a comfortable 3-1 lead. Conte was not one bit happy with what he saw and hit out at his players in the media post-match.

The Italian manager has since received a lot of criticism for his comments. His future at the club remains uncertain with it still not being clear if he will remain the manager when football resumes after the international break.

Speaking about the comments, Hojbjerg has come out in defence of his manager and understands why he is upset.

“We’ve all seen it. [It was a] very honest and very open press conference he gave. It is because he is not satisfied. You don’t do that if you’ve reached the quarter-final of the Champions League and if you’re in the semi-final of the FA Cup.The coach has not been satisfied, and that is what I will take with me. You do what you can to please him”

Despite Hojbjerg’s matter-of-fact assessment of the situation, Conte should have known better than come in front of the media and absolutely throw his players under the bus and trample their confidence.

It does not paint a good picture of the club and damages the morale of the whole team. With a crucial run-in until the end of the season, the last thing we wanted to see was a demoralized team.

Yes, this season must have been much better than what it is right now considering the reinforcements we made in the summer. However, the fact that it is not up to that level is as much a fault of Conte’s as it is of his players.

The Italian manager has not managed to get the best out of his team despite signing so many players. Yes, every project needs time but coming out in front of the media and saying such things doesn’t gain you much goodwill.
