Report: Tottenham Hotspur managerial targets have two similar concerns as Antonio Conte
Tottenham Hotspur could lose Antonio Conte as their manager this summer. This has become a real possibility, with the Italian tactician yet to renew his deal with the Lilywhites.
Amidst this, Spurs have, to one’s surprise, linked with a lot of managers. Brentford’s Thomas Frank, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Oliver Glasner and the free-agent trio of Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Thomas Tuchel are some of the potential candidates.
According to the Telegraph (Subscription Required), Spurs’ potential managerial candidates share concerns that mirror those of Conte. Firstly, there is a feeling that the Italian manager overachieved in the first season with Spurs.
We finished in the top four ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal and qualified for the UEFA Champions League. Those outside the club now believe that the second season is a better reflection of where the club stands with respect to its competition.
Spurs in trouble
Secondly, there is an insecurity about the future of director of football operations, Fabio Paratici. The Italian chief is the subject of an investigation as a part of the inquiries launched on Juventus for false accounting in the past.
This is concerning because fans would remember Paratici was appointed to look after the daily operations at the club and take away some responsibilities from chairman Daniel Levy.
There seems to be instability at the club. Conte’s rant following our late draw against Southampton in the Premier League just before the international break can be viewed by some as a cry for the club to sack him.
He doesn’t seem like he wants to be here. There are no doubts about his commitment to the craft, but the former Chelsea and Juventus boss’ constant digs at the club indicate that there isn’t complete harmony behind the scenes.
