Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about Manchester City star Aymeric Laporte
According to an exclusive by journalist Steve Kay for Football Transfers, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Manchester City star Aymeric Laporte.
The North Londoners are keen to bring in a reliable partner for Cristian Romero in the summer. The Argentine has enjoyed a good run of form since moving to Spurs but also lacks a dependable partner in the heart of the defence.
Tottenham for all their rebuilds in recent years are still some way off challenging for the top. Having a stable rearguard lays a proper foundation for a side to build and it is imperative that Tottenham get it right in the summer.
Daniel Levy and co are interested in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi but the Englishman is priced at a massive £65 million. It is much higher than the £45m that Spurs have earmarked for a centre-back.
Having been priced out of a move for Guehi, the Lilywhites have now turned their attention to Laporte. The Spaniard has been a key staple of Pep Guardiola’s roster at The Etihad and has won numerous titles with the Sky Blues.
His standing at Manchester has taken a hit of late with Guardiola opting for the likes of Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake more often than not. Laporte is touted for a summer exit and Barcelona has been suggested as a potential destination.
At 28, the Spanish international is far from done and is arguably in the prime of his career. Good with the ball at his feet and tactically astute, he would be an excellent addition to the Tottenham backline.
Add to it his cool demeanour and he could theoretically be the perfect foil to Romero and his aggressive style of defending. Laporte’s history of winning titles will also bring a mentality of success to the Spurs squad, god knows we need it.

It is fair to say that the price being quoted for Guehi is off the charts and that the Englishman is yet to prove his pedigree as a world-class player. Laporte on the other hand is a proven player with Premier League experience.
The 28-year-old is keen to secure more game time and Tottenham can do just that. Manchester City have shown with Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Oleksandr Zinchenko that they aren’t averse to selling stars to rival clubs. Tottenham will be well served to make a punt for Laporte in the summer.
