Tottenham Hotspur star Hugo Lloris steps up fitness work ahead of competitive return
Our 1-0 league win against Manchester City on 5 February came at a price, with Hugo Lloris suffering a ligament injury in the final moments of the game.
He has been sidelined since then, with Fraser Forster filling in for him across competitions. It seems that the France icon is very close to making his return to competitive first-team action.
As per the Evening Standard, Lloris took part in a closed-door friendly against Ipswich Town during the international break. It was a good way for some of the youngsters and the first-team players to be warmed up before first-team football resumed.
Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason took charge of the game while manager Antonio Conte was missing amidst question marks surrounding his future at the club. It is unlikely that he will stay at Spurs for long.
Nevertheless, Lloris’ potential return from injury in our next game could be a timely boost for us as we look to end the season on a strong note and make the top four. Spurs’ official Twitter account shared a video where the 36-year-old is doing light fitness work in the gym.
Nothing too fancy or strenuous. But we would be foolish to make him do all that already. Spurs’ next game is against Everton at Goodison Park on 3 April.
Let’s see if the former Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper will be fit to start by then. The video shows Lloris moving his joints with relative comfort, which is a brilliant sign.
But even if goalkeepers don’t do as much moving around as the outfield players, one awkward landing is all it would take to aggravate the injury if we aren’t careful. We would need someone to succeed him long-term, but we can use his services until the end of the season at least.
