Brighton and Hove Albion shot-stopper Robert Sanchez ‘free to leave’ amidst Tottenham Hotspur links

Robert Sanchez is ‘free to leave’ Brighton & Hove Albion in the upcoming transfer window amidst links to Tottenham Hotspur, according to talkSPORT (h/t Metro).

Spurs are in the market to sign a new goalkeeper next summer. To that end, the Spain international is one of the names being associated with a move to the North London side.

In recent weeks, the 25-year-old has lost his place in the Seagulls’ starting lineup. However, the shot-stopper is still on good terms with Roberto De Zerbi regardless.

But the Amex Stadium side will not stand in Sanchez’s way if he opts to leave at the end of the season. Premier League rivals Chelsea are also interested in the Spaniard. The East Sussex-based club value the 25-year-old at around £28 million.

At the moment, Hugo Lloris is the number one at Tottenham. The French national has been Spurs’ first choice in between the sticks for over a decade. However, in recent years, he has been inconsistent.

The former Olympique Lyon star has had a topsy-turvy time at the North London side since winning the 2018 World Cup. The 36-year-old is now in the final stretch of his playing career.

As a backup, the Lilywhites have Fraser Forster at their disposal. The English national was signed from Southampton in the summer of 2022. However, the 35-year-old is not one for the future either, considering his age.

Sanchez has been a pivotal player for Brighton over the years. Currently, the Seagulls are fighting for a place in the top four. The Spaniard was an essential part of the Amex Stadium side’s success before being displaced by Jason Steele.

Therefore, it would not be surprising to see the 25-year-old leave De Zerbi’s team, having lost his place in the team. Hopefully, Tottenham will be able to secure his signature next summer.
