Tottenham Hotspur willing to pay £28 million for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi
Tottenham Hotspur are willing to pay £28 million to Montpellier to acquire the services of youngster Elye Wahi, according to TeamTalk via Calciomercato.
The 20-year-old is attracting interest from a number of top sides around Europe. AC Milan are eyeing the striker. The Rosoneri’s number nine position comprises an ageing Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
However, Spurs have officially entered the race for Wahi. The North London side are closely watching the France U20 international and the Lilywhites are open to matching the Ligue 1 side’s demands for the forward.
The 20-year-old first developed through the youth ranks at La Paillade. Then, in the 2020/21 season, the youngster broke into the French side’s first-team setup.
In the previous campaign, Wahi cemented his place in Montpellier’s starting lineup. The striker has continued to be a pivotal player for Michel Der Zakarian’s team in this term.
The 20-year-old is enjoying his best spell in the 2022/23 season. He has made 25 appearances in Ligue 1 for the French outfit, finding the back of the net 12 times and providing three assists.
At the moment, Tottenham’s front line is stacked with the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. However, the two will not stay young forever and the North London side evidently have to plan for the future.
Spurs also have Dejan Kulusevksi at their disposal, who has done well in the past year. We also signed Richarlison in the summer of 2022. But the Brazil international has been underwhelming at the club so far.
