Gollini lauds Tottenham Hotspur loanee Tanguy Ndombele’s latest Napoli display
One-time Tottenham Hotspur duo Pierluigi Gollini and Tanguy Ndombele are a happy pair right now, with Napoli destined for their first Serie A title since 1990.
Their latest win came against Lecce away from home on 7 April, where the Spurs loanee played 24 minutes in central midfield. He came on and made one block and two recoveries while completing 82% of his 22 attempted passes.
Pretty average display. He also got booked but did his job well and helped his midfield and defence not concede any goals to hold onto their lead.
After the game, Ndombele posted a photo on Instagram from the game and captioned it in French, ‘Et pendant ce temps là…‘ which essentially means ‘and meanwhile…’ as a reference to Napoli’s wait for the inevitable Serie A title.
Gollini, who was on loan at Spurs last season from Atalanta and is currently playing on loan for Napoli, commented:
“😍Il Mago🤍 @ndombele_22”
It translates to ‘The Magician’. It’s a name we have seen associated with magical playmakers such as Philippe Coutinho and David Silva. Does Ndombele deserve such a title?
Perhaps it is just one friend hyping up another friend. But those who have watched Ndombele or even trained with him, like Gollini would have this season, would know all about what the Frenchman can do with the ball on his day.
A silky smooth dribbler who can beat defenders at will, Ndombele also has an eye for a killer pass in the final third. He has featured 35 times across competitions for Gli Azzurri this season where they are leading the Serie A table by 16 points from 29 games.

Spurs fans would love it if he wins the league with Napoli but perhaps some of them would be hoping that he doesn’t return to N17 and is instead sold permanently. Napoli have the option to buy him but it remains to be seen if they will activate it, given Ndombele’s lack of form and fall from grace after his promising career at Olympique Lyonnais.
