Brentford boss Thomas Frank confirms price tag for Tottenham and Chelsea target David Raya

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United target David Raya will cost 40 million Pounds this summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper himself admitted earlier this season that he turned down two new contracts from the Bees. Brentford have been impressive.

They are the only team to beat Manchester City twice this season and have finished in the top seven – something not even Spurs and Chelsea managed.

But in the long run, they don’t seem to be able to match the clout of the truly big English clubs. Frank knows this himself.

Raya to Spurs?

He said after his team’s 1-0 win against Manchester City on the final day of the Premier League season, via Evening Standard:

“I think we only have one player for sale. That’s the one that’s been talked about a lot, David. He costs £40million, I think I said.”

In all honesty, we need a goalkeeper more than Chelsea and Manchester United right now. Hugo Lloris, 36, is no longer the world-class goalkeeper he once was that France and Spurs trusted week in and week out.

Fraser Forster, 35, isn’t really young or able enough to be his successor here. Moreover, Lloris has suffered multiple injuries this season and it is clear that his time as Tottenham’s No. 1 is coming to an end.

Hopefully, Raya is aware of that. Manchester United and Chelsea would have to do a fair bit of selling to make themselves a convincing destination for the Spain international.

The Blues have Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy while Manchester United have Dean Henderson and 2022-23 Premier League Golden Glove winner David de Gea on their books.

No amount of assurances can guarantee Raya a No. 1 spot at these two clubs until and unless all four players are offloaded. After all, we have seen how managers at Man United and Chelsea in the past have shuffled the pecking order between those names. This is one area where Spurs should think they hold an advantage.
