Atletico Madrid agree personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg
Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid ahead of a potential move this summer, according to The Times (Subscription Required).
Los Rojiblancos are interested in acquiring the Denmark international’s services in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the La Liga outfit have come to a consensus with the midfielder.
As things stand, the 27-year-old’s current contract with the North London side still has two years remaining on it. Therefore, it remains to be seen what Spurs will demand to part ways with him.
Tottenham signed Hojbjerg in the summer of 202 from Southampton. The Danish national had established himself as a quality player at the Saints and has only gone from strength to strength at the North London side.
Therefore, it is no surprise that Atletico are after him. Over the years, the midfielder has been a key player for various managers at the Lilywhites. In the previous campaign, the 27-year-old was one of the standout stars at the club.
Tottenham struggled a lot in the 2022/23 term. We were poor overall from back to front and put in inconsistent performances under Antonio Conte. As a result, the North London side finished eighth in the Premier League table.
However, Hojbjerg managed to put in some decent displays regardless of our form. The Danish national added a creative spark to his game as well. Last season, the midfielder made 44 appearances in all competitions for us, scoring five goals and providing seven assists.
But will Ange Postecoglou opt to part ways with him? Only time will tell. The Australian also has the likes of Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele at his disposal.
