Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba deal ‘not easy’ for Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur will find it difficult to complete a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
Spurs are still in discussions to acquire the services of the 24-year-old’s services in the ongoing transfer window. However, it will not be easy for the North London side to pull off a deal for the centre-back in the coming weeks.
Yet, Tottenham are still working on signing the Burkina Faso international. He remains a top priority in terms of incomings at the Lilywhites at the moment.
Leverkusen signed Tapsoba in the summer of 2019. Since then, the defender has been a key player for the Bundesliga outfit in their starting lineup.
In the previous campaign, the 24-year-old made 47 appearances in all competitions for the German side, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
Xabi Alonso’s team had a decent campaign. They finished sixth in the league table. The Black and Reds also made it to the semi-finals of the Europa League, losing narrowly to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.
At Tottenham, the backline has been shaky for some time now. Under Antonio Conte, the team was unable to become more robust and solid. As a result, last season, the North London side were weak and fragile at the back.
Spurs managed just 10 clean sheets in 38 Premier League matches in the previous campaign. Our defence, which mostly consisted of the likes of Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Clement Lenglet in the back three, failed to live up to the expectations.

Tapsoba is an established centre-back. The 24-year-old has garnered a ton of experience in the Bundesliga. It looks like the Burkinabe national is ready to take the next step in his career. Whether that will be at the North London side remains to be seen.
