Chelsea open to Conor Gallagher exit amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur target Conor Gallagher has been deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea and could be allowed to leave, according to the Evening Standard.
The Blues are open to parting ways with the midfielder in the ongoing transfer window. As for the England international, he is also willing to depart the Stamford Bridge side this summer.
To that end, the North London side are interested in acquiring the 23-year-old’s services in the coming weeks. However, Premier League rivals West Ham United also have him on their radar.
David Moyes’ team are ready to pip Tottenham in the race for Gallagher after banking a significant amount from the departure of Declan Rice to Arsenal. The Hammers are keen on reinforcing their engine room with two midfielders.
As for Spurs, we need to add more homegrown players to our ranks. Chelsea’s 23-year-old would help in that regard. Also, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is angling for a move away from the Lilywhites, with Atletico Madrid eyeing him.
Gallagher made his way through the youth ranks at the Blues and has broken into the first-team setup. The English national is not keen on leaving his boyhood club. But there is growing acceptance from the midfielder about the idea of a departure, having not been handed a new contract yet.
Tottenham’s engine room relied on Hojbjerg as a key player last season. Therefore, if the Denmark international leaves, we will evidently need to bolster the middle of the park.
Ange Postecoulou does have other options at his disposal, though. Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso have returned to the club from their respective loan spells.
