Cristian Romero rejected offers to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero has revealed that he rejected offers to leave the club in the ongoing transfer window.

The Argentina international has been one of our best players over the years. Therefore, it is not surprising that other teams are looking to acquire his services.

However, speaking to the media via transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the defender expressed his desire to stay at the North London side for many years to come. To that end, the 25-year-old rebuffed interest from other clubs recently.

“When I got offers from other clubs to leave for this summer, I said no because I want to have my best years here at Spurs. I really like the Premier League, I really like Tottenham and I want to be here for many more years to come.”

Tottenham initially got Romero on loan in 2021 before making his move permanent last summer. Over the years, the centre-back has been a key part of the Lilywhites’ starting lineup.

The Argentine has been pivotal in our backline. Unfortunately, injuries have hampered the defender’s development and game time at the North London side.

In the previous campaign, the 25-year-old was essential to our team. He made 34 appearances in all competitions for Spurs in all competitions. The former Atalanta star was one of the only positives in our backline last season.

Tottenham were shaky from back to front, especially defensively in the 2022/23 term. Antonio Conte was unable to solidify us. The North London side had a hard time holding onto leads and keeping clean sheets.

While Romero made his fair share of mistakes, he was arguably better than the rest of the supporting cast. The likes of Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Clement Lenglet and Davinson Sanchez were inconsistent.

It is satisfying to see the 2022 World Cup winner being committed to Tottenham, despite our failure to make it into a European competition after finishing eighth in the English top flight last season. Hopefully, the 25-year-old will get better at Spurs and bring success to the club.
