Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg informs Tottenham that he wants to leave
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg firmly expressed his desire to bid farewell to the Tottenham Hotspur faithful and embark on a new adventure in Spain with Atletico Madrid.
The Danish midfield maestro’s journey with the Lilywhites began in 2020, following a successful stint with Southampton, where his commanding performances and tactical acumen won the hearts of Spurs’ supporters.
Since donning the lily white jersey, Højbjerg has carved a niche for himself as a stalwart in the team’s midfield, showcasing remarkable consistency and unwavering reliability. Often, he has been the lone horse in this regard.
However, as the old adage goes, all good things must come to an end. With the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the new Tottenham manager, it seems that Højbjerg might not feature prominently in the Australian tactician’s plans for the forthcoming season.
As a result, the Danish international has taken the bold step of communicating his intentions to part ways with the North London outfit, setting his sights on joining forces with Atletico Madrid.
The prospect of linking up with Diego Simeone’s men, renowned for their resilience and tenacity, has certainly captured Hojbjerg’s imagination. He would suit the Argentinian’s system like a glove.
From Tottenham’s perspective, selling Hojbjerg would serve a dual purpose. Firstly, it would liberate significant funds that could be judiciously reinvested in strengthening the squad during the ongoing summer rebuild.
Secondly, the departure of the Danish midfielder would create room for young and promising talents to flourish in the team. The likes of Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr might find themselves featuring more prominently.
