Tottenham could sign Douglas Luiz if Pierre-Emerick Hojbjerg joins Atletico Madrid
According to Mail Online (h/t GivemeSport), Tottenham Hotspur could advance their interest in Douglas Luiz if Pierre-Emile Hojberg completes his transfer to Atletico Madrid.
Hojberg is on the verge of leaving Spurs and if that happens, then the club would enter the market to replace the Dane.
Aston Villa midfielder Luiz is one of the primary targets to replace Hojberg and Spurs could advance their interest in the coming weeks.
Luiz has impressed many with his performances for Villa last season and it is believed that he is not willing to sign a new contract, with his current contract ending in June 2026.
Luiz to Spurs?
We would need to improve our midfield if Hojberg moves to Spain with the Dane a solid part of our midfield in the past few seasons.
He provided strength and shield to the back four and was largely impressive for many parts of his tenure at Spurs, especially under Antonio Conte.
However, Ange Posteloglou is looking to play a more advanced and attacking style of football and would want his midfielders to be more comfortable on the feet.
Hojberg is an amazing holding midfielder and lacks the vision and technique to play in a more attacking way, hence his transfer to Atletico makes a lot of sense, as his ability will go hand in hand with how Diego Simone likes his team to play.

And it is good to know Spurs recognise the need for a replacement if the Denmark international leaves N17. Luiz, 25, who is a full international for Brazil, would be a terrific idea given his passing ability and ball control.
Moreover, he has enough knowledge of the Premier League to consider taking the next step in his career.
