Tottenham Hotspur target Levi Colwill agrees new deal with Chelsea
According to Athletic reporter David Ornstein, Tottenham target Levi Colwill has agreed to sign a new six-year deal with Chelsea, putting an end to all transfer speculations surrounding him.
One of the most promising young English talents there is, Colwill’s growth over the last 18-24 months has been unbelievable. Understandably, a number of top clubs seemed interested in securing his services and Tottenham were no exception.
Let’s be honest with one thing about this transfer saga – it was never once close to happening. The English defender never seemed like a realistic target for any club, leave alone Tottenham and his future has now been sealed.
It is a vote of confidence from Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino that they have handed him a bumper six-year deal, reiterating the faith they have in him in becoming a Blues legend in the years to come.
Out on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion last season, Colwill thrived in Roberto de Zerbi’s fluid attacking system. He was so good for the Seagulls in playing out from the back, something that we know Pochettino will appreciate.
Will Levi Colwill have been a good signing for Tottenham? Absolutely! He would have suited Ange Postecoglou’s team perfectly and being left-footed, he would have given a completely new dimension to our defence.
However, especially in the absence of Champions League football, there was no way on earth he was moving to the N17 if he had made the decision to leave Chelsea. However, he has chosen to stick by them.
Tottenham know Pochettino all too well and will know for a fact that he will make sure that Colwill feels important in the team. There is every chance for the 20-year-old Englishman to thrive at Chelsea this season and beyond.
