Tottenham Hotspur finalise €50m package for Micky van de Ven
According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have finalised a deal worth €50m package add-ons included for Dutch defender Micky van de Ven.
Van de Ven is a talented player whose quality in the Bundesliga has not gone unnoticed. It comes as no surprise that Tottenham have gone really hard to get this signing done to fortify their defence.
For quite some time, it looked like Tottenham might not be able to land any of their defensive targets. They were just being linked with names continually without actually managing to find a breakthrough.
A tall pacy defender who is good with the ball at his feet, it comes as no surprise that Ange Postecoglou want to sign him. Him being left-footed only represents the cherry on top of a cake.
At 22, he is still very young and would perfectly fit Tottenham’s new philosophy of signing high-potential youngsters. Partnering him with someone like Cristian Romero would just be perfect for Tottenham.
Throughout last season, Tottenham really struggled to find a solid defensive foundation and their woes were compounded by the fact that the usually solid Hugo Lloris had a season to forget in goal.
Micky van de Ven might not be the solution to all their problems but he certainly is a good start. Likely to be guarded by Guglielmo Vicario in goal this season, Tottenham must be much better off in goal.
Tottenham must not rest on their laurels though. They need to sign at least one more central defender for the club if they can. If not, they need to find a way to bring the best out of Van de Ven and Romero.
