Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their efforts to sign Gent forward Gift Orban
According to Gary Jacobs for The Times (subscription required), Tottenham Hotspur are considering stepping up their efforts to sign Gent forward Gift Orban this summer.
This news has come in parallel with the update that Spurs have rejected the latest offer from Bayern Munich for star striker Harry Kane. German champions are now considering their position before thinking about a fourth bid.
Coming back to the Orban story, about a week ago, Daily Mail revealed that the club would consider making a move for the young Nigerian forward.
The 21-year-old started his career at Nigerian club Bison FC before moving to Norwegian side Stabaek in May 2022. He eventually signed for Gent in January of this calendar year.
After joining the Belgian club, Orban scored 20 goals and assisted two in 22 appearances in all competitions in the second half of last season. Those are incredible for a striker in any league and season, especially when arriving in the middle of it.
The Nigerian is a quick player who is good at dribbling, finishing off chances, long-range efforts and much more. In the Belgian Jupiler Pro League last season, he averaged 3.3 shots and 1.1 key passes per game (Whoscored).
Regardless of what happens with Kane’s future, there is a case for Spurs to sign a striker this summer. If the club talisman does not leave, Orban can come in and be the ideal backup option. The latter can also play as a winger on either side.

This role was given to Richarlison when he was signed 12 months ago. But, the Brazilian has failed to live up to the expectations so far. Hence, it would make sense for the club to sign Orban.
