Ange Postecoglou gives verdict on Tottenham Hotspur legend Hugo Lloris’ potential exit

Ange Postecoglou has given his verdict on Hugo Lloris’ potential Tottenham Hotspur exit before the September 1 deadline.

The situation is clear. Lloris, 36, is clearly at the end of his playing days and in the final year of his contract at Spurs.

If he doesn’t leave now, then we could lose the club legend for nothing next year. It would also mean paying his wages for another year without getting to use his services as often as we have for the past decade.

According to BBC, Spurs have been in talks with SS Lazio over a potential transfer this month, who are in need of an experienced goalkeeper. The move makes sense on paper and it wouldn’t be a surprise if it materialises soon.

Lloris out of the door?

Asked at his latest press conference ahead of the Manchester United game on Saturday about the French legend’s departure, Ange said, via Football.London:

“I’m not really across it. With the outgoings I have very little control over it. My focus has to be on what’s in front of us and who’s training. I’m assuming that as we get closer to the end of the window everything will accelerate.”

That is a pretty diplomatic and safe response to a transfer that seems very close to happening. We have already signed Guglielmo Vicario and have Fraser Forster as backup, so there isn’t really a reason to worry.

But Lloris’ exit will hurt fans, who have grown accustomed to seeing him lead the club for years. With 447 appearances for Spurs under his belt, he is a bona fide legend here and he deserves a proper send-off on the pitch.
