Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet tipped to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Fabrizio Romano has tipped Tottenham Hotspur to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet in the final days of the ongoing transfer window.

The French national spent the 2022/23 term on a temporary move at the North London side. He was a key player for us last season. However, the 28-year-old returned to the Blaugrana after his loan spell ended.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, transfer guru Romano revealed that there was a possibility of Lenglet making his way back to the Spurs in the coming days if the La Liga outfit are left with no other choice.

“Clement Lenglet could return to Tottenham, at the moment it’s not concrete or advanced, but in the final days of the window, in case Barcelona can’t find another solution for Lenglet, it could be one to watch.”

Barcelona signed the French national in the summer of 2018 from Sevilla. The former AS Nancy Lorraine star established himself as a regular in the Blaugrana’s starting lineup.

However, since the arrival of Xavi in the Spanish giants’ dugout, the centre-back has found game time hard to come by at the La Liga outfit. The defender does not seem to be in the Catalan side’s manager’s plans.

Lenglet did not play a single minute for Barcelona during the pre-season. The Blaugrana have the likes of Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia in their ranks.

On the other hand, Tottenham could do with some reinforcements in their backline. The North London side have signed Micky van de Ven this summer. But our other options for the central defensive positions only include Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

Unfortunately, the Argentine World Cup winner has been injury prone during his stint at Spurs. As for the English and Colombian defenders, they have been inconsistent for the Lilywhites for a considerable period now.

Lenglet started in 24 matches in the Premier League for us last season, showcasing that he can handle the rigours of the English top flight. Therefore, it would seemingly be wise to get a hold of the French national once again.
