Potential boost for Tottenham as defensive target’s Monaco move runs into hurdles

AS Monaco deal for Fulham defender and Tottenham Hotspur target Tosin Adarabioyo set to collapse

Fulham and AS Monaco have been unable to come to an agreement for Tottenham Hotspur target Tosin Adarabioyo so far, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna on Twitter.

The Red and Whites are interested in acquiring the services of the English national in the ongoing transfer window. But The Ligue 1 outfit’s pursuit for the centre-back is ‘almost dead’.

As things stand, the French giants’ deal for the defender is on the brink of collapse. The Craven Cottage side have not gotten in touch with the Stade Louis-II side over the last several days.

Fulham prefer selling Adarabioyo to the North London side this summer. However, the centre-back has his heart set on a move to Monaco. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the English national.

At the moment, the defender is in the final year of his current contract at the Cottagers. Thus, the former Manchester City star will become a free agent in the summer of 2024.

Adarabioyo was a key player for the Craven Cottage side last season. The 25-year-old started in 23 Premier League matches for Marco Silva’s team in the 2022/23 term. However, the centre-back has not made their squad in the first two games of the new season.

Tottenham have bolstered their backline with the addition of Micky van de Ven this summer. The Holland national has been preferred by Ange Postecoglou alongside Cristian Romero so far at the North London side.

Davinson Sanchez has also been handed opportunities by the Australian manager. But the Colombian’s future at the club presents an interesting case. The defender did not cover himself in glory in the previous campaign. Eric Dier is also at the gaffer’s disposal for now.

However, we could evidently do with more depth in the central defensive positions. Adarabioyo is a player with experience in the English top flight. The centre-back’s contract situation could seemingly make him a compelling buy. Will Spurs make a move for him? Only time will tell.
